The letter below was written using the car's voice, in order to let the previous owner, Don Swauger, know how it was doing in its new home. Don was the uncle of The Roadster Factory's John Swauger. He had named his car Lil Red.
Hi Don!
I miss you and the hills of Pennsylvania … but the country roads here were beautiful this fall. I went out every weekend for a tour of the countryside and then lunch at a British style pub called the Waltzing Weasel. They love me there. Everybody wants to talk about me.
I have new shoes now, just like the ones when I first came here from England. Here I am wearing my new shoes.
That’s one of my younger relatives beside me. He used to go on all the countryside tours and pub lunches, but now, it’s my turn. I suspect soon we’ll have to share the trips but I hope maybe we both can go. I haven’t yet been out at the same time as him. Maybe this summer we can play follow-the-leader (of course we’ll have to take turns being the leader).
They got me a new nametag before they let me go out on the roads here. What do you think? Pretty special isn’t it? (Here they say pretty special eh?)
How do you like the new jewellery they got for me? The one on the left is one of those original pieces that all the really cool people over here in the USA had when we were really young. Now I have my very own. The one on the right is one of those that we had back home in England when we had membership in the Auto Club. This was just before I went away for the winter. I can hardly wait until spring. We are planning to organize a special party for British Sports cars at one of the local high schools. My new keepers also have promised to take me to a place called Niagara Falls in the spring. Apparently it is one of the seven natural wonders of the world … they keep telling me I’m one too (it makes me blush). It’s a good thing I’m red so it doesn’t show too much!
Did you know that the place where nephew John works, The Roadster Factory, has pictures of me in their new catalog? They took them during the Summer Party right on the street outside the Coventry Inn in Indiana PA. I was sitting right beside Charles Runyan’s black TR3A.
As soon as my new keepers saw me that wanted me to come home with them so John brought me into town to be in the show at the Roadster Factory’s Summer Party. This is my entry card. I hope I can come back this summer and visit my former home in Pennsylvania and once again enjoy the sun on my top and the wind rushing past as I nip around those great mountain roads.
Here’s another shot of me and some of my relatives. That black one also lives in Canada now and the cute yellow one visits from Florida. The red one like me lives with a very special friend of all Triumphs. His name is Fred Thomas and he goes everywhere with his red Triumph.
Well, that’s all for me right now. I hope all is well with you and that the snow in Pennsylvania hasn’t been too much of a bother this year.
Your friend
LIL 3
